Tips & strategy
- Start with the smallest region: fewer cells means fewer options, and often only one.
- A region that fits entirely inside one or two rows 'uses up' those rows — no other region can place a star there.
- If two regions are confined to the same two rows, every other cell in those rows is ✕.
- Placing a star eliminates up to 8 neighbours plus the whole row, column and region. Chain these eliminations before guessing.
- You never need to guess: every puzzle is solvable by pure deduction.
Frequently asked questions
How many stars per region?
Exactly one. A grid of size N has N regions, N rows and N columns, and N stars in total.
Is diagonal touching allowed?
No. Two stars can't be adjacent in any of the eight directions.
Is this the LinkedIn Queens game?
It's the same kind of puzzle (a 'star battle' variant). Regions is our own independent implementation with daily puzzles, unlimited mode and three sizes. We're not affiliated with LinkedIn.
What does Auto-mark do?
When you place a star, it marks every cell that can no longer hold a star with ✕. You can turn it off in the toolbar.
At midnight UTC, each game gets a new numbered puzzle (#1 was September 22, 2026). Everyone gets the same one, so you can compare times with friends. The archive lets you play any past day.
